Terms of Service


By using the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (SSRS) website and its content, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms of Service, which include the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to all the terms and conditions of this agreement, then you may not access the website or use its services.


SSRS website – means the website with the URL scottishsquirrels.org.uk and includes the SRRS Community HubYou/user – means you as a public website user or registered Community Hub userCommunity Hub – the parts of the SSRS website that require a login to accessContent – includes, but is not limited to: multimedia such as videos, sound files, photos, other images, music; textual material, comments, forum and blog postings; information such as sighting data, geospatial/location data, trapping records, survey records, metadata; databases, datasets. Content may also include or be referred to as Data as the context requires.

If you use or download Content from the SSRS website you:

  • recognise that it is protected by database rights and other intellectual property rights and will respect those rights
  • will comply with any licence conditions associated with the Data
  • will not remove any identifier of ownership or terms of use that is associated with the Content or Data record
  • recognise that the Content is provided without any warranty regarding its quality, accuracy, completeness, currency, relevance or suitability for any particular purpose and that you use the Content at your own risk
  • respect any restrictions regarding the availability of the Data, such as sensitive data.

In order to access content on the Community Hub you will be required to register to establish an account/user profile with the SSRS website.

When registering, a genuine email address must be provided.

You must not impersonate another living person or registered user. SSRS may refuse registration of users whose suggested login names are considered inappropriate by SSRS.
In some cases SSRS may ask you to provide your real name or other identifying or contact details. Such personal information will be managed in accordance with the SSRS Privacy Policy.

You will ensure that any registration information you give to SSRS is accurate, correct and up to date.

SSRS will not accept a registration that SSRS suspects is being made by or on behalf of someone who has been suspended for violation of the Terms of Service.

If you create an account on the Community Hub, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and you are fully responsible for all activities that occur under the account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your password.

SSRS may lock, restrict and/or delete your registration or account if you breach the Terms of Service.

When contributing Content to SSRS you are accepting the Terms of Service.

Trapping data and verified sightings collected through this site will be shared with NBN Atlas Scotland. Your name will be stored as part of the record and may be made publicly available via NBN Atlas Scotland along with the species name, date and location of the record. If you wish for your data to be anonymised you must contact SSRS prior to submitting your data.

You retain Intellectual Property Rights in the form of Database Rights and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post, display, upload etc. on the SSRS website.
You are legally responsible for your contributions.

SSRS may decide in its sole discretion what contributions are published on the SSRS website (but is not obliged to do so). You must not submit Content that:

  • is defamatory, malicious, threatening, offensive, abusive, obscene, or otherwise unlawful or that violates laws regarding harassment, discrimination, racial vilification, privacy or contempt
  • is intentionally false or misleading
  • is an infringement of copyright or other intellectual property rights
  • seeks to promote or endorse commercial products or services or to solicit business
  • deliberately provokes other community members, or is inappropriate, repetitive or off topic
  • compromises your privacy or that of other contributors or that contain inappropriate personal information
  • compromises sensitive data or confidential information

You should be aware that your contributions may remain online indefinitely.

The SSRS website and its Content is intended to provide information for general and scientific use; to assist red squirrel conservation; and to facilitate volunteer development and engagement with the project.

SSRS makes the SSRS website and Content available on the understanding that you use them at your own risk – they are provided ‘as is’ and ‘as available’ and you exercise your own skill, judgement and care with respect to their use or your reliance on them.

SSRS make every effort to ensure that all data on the site is as accurate as possible, but give no warranty regarding the quality, accuracy, completeness, currency, relevance or suitability for any particular purpose of the Content or the SSRS website.

SSRS accepts no liability for any interference with or damage to your computer system, software, or data occurring in connection with or relating to the SSRS website. You are encouraged to take appropriate and adequate precautions to ensure that whatever is selected from this website is free of viruses or other contamination that may interfere with or damage your computer system, software or data.

Our Privacy Policy forms part of the SSRS Terms of Service and describes how we use your personal information when you use the SSRS website.

Whenever you give us personal information you are consenting to its collection and use in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

SSRS does not have direct control over the content of linked websites nor the changes that may occur to content on those websites.

It is your responsibility to make your own decisions about the accuracy, completeness, currency, relevance or suitability for any particular purpose of the content on external websites.
SSRS is not responsible for, and does not endorse, the content on external websites.

SSRS publishes links to external websites at its discretion, and reserves the right to remove user-posted links to external websites for any reason and at any time.

We encourage use of links on external websites to the SSRS homepage or other relevant pages on the SSRS website.

Such links should not suggest that your website, organisation or services/products are endorsed by SSRS.

The presence of email addresses on the SSRS website does not infer consent to send unsolicited commercial email to those addresses.
